In this paper, in or der to identify the pixels belong to star in an image, an accurate model of the electro optical star tracker system and the formation of star image are presented. Then, using detection theory has been proved that the threshold method is the optimal detection of the stars in the image. This is important because on the one hand by increasing the threshold, the stars will be lost and the other by reducing the noise as the stars are detected, which increases computing time or lack of attitude determination. Also show the effect of the location of star into the image sensor pixels and how much the brightness of the star and thus the optimal threshold is effective. This variable has not been investigated in the literatures and do not consider this to select the threshold level will be incorrect.
