In this paper, a new idea in the interconnection network of field-programmable
analog arrays (FPAA) is proposed. For each configurable analog block (CAB), a
new local network in the interconnection network is used, which offers a nonblocking
fully-connectable architecture, and has advantages over the well-known
crossbar network scheme. The proposed local network has only one series switch
in the signal path. For the case of 8 and 40 node CABs the total number of
network switches is 28 and 780, network area is 3439.705μm2 and
237744.44μm2, and the number of switches connected to the signal path is 14
and 78, respectively. For these two design cases, average total parasitic
capacitance connected to the signal path is 51.81fF and 290.26fF, respectively.
